Regional Chamber, REALTORS Association to host Mahoning Valley housing symposium
The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, in partnership with the Youngstown Columbiana Association of REALTORS, will host “Housing in the Mahoning Valley: Aligning Growth, Workforce and Community Needs” on May 1 at the Youngstown Country Club.
From 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the symposium will focus on housing supply and growth, the impact of housing on employer hiring challenges and how local governments can help accommodate residents’ housing wants and needs.
Industry experts, policymakers and community leaders will lead the discussions.
The program begins at 8 a.m. following breakfast and networking and will feature Trey Addison, interim executive director of The Ohio State University’s Center for Real Estate, delivering the opening keynote on housing’s role in regional growth.
Russell Mills, regional executive for the Pittsburgh branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, will present on economic trends affecting housing markets, including wages, population shifts and regional growth patterns. State Rep. Tex Fischer of Canfield also will discuss legislative efforts to address housing challenges. Q&A sessions will follow both presentations.
Also included are a housing supply panel discussion focused on development, rehabilitation and real estate in legacy markets, as well as a solutions panel on the role local governments can play in helping grow housing and overcome related challenges.
“Economic growth doesn’t happen in a vacuum—it depends on people choosing to live and build their lives here. This symposium will help our community better understand why investing in housing is just as important as investing in jobs,” said Brenda J. Linert, director of community impact for the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber.
The event is intended for those working in the housing space, including realtors, builders, developers, local government leaders and suppliers.
“It’s important that we’re having informed, local conversations about what buyers, renters and communities need,” said Roberta Hiller, CEO, Youngstown Columbiana Association of REALTORS. “Conversations like this help connect what people are seeing in the market with the broader housing needs facing the region.”
Registration is $25 for Chamber members and $35 for non-members. A full breakfast is included.
