Pitching-rich Youngstown Cardinal Mooney retained its No. 1 spot in this week’s mahoningmatters.com Super 7 high school baseball poll.

Here’s a look at the latest rankings:

No. 1 CARDINAL MOONEY

Cardinal Mooney remained No. 1 in the poll.

The Cardinals, who are 11-1 on the season, defeated Canfield 8-6 in its most recent outing.

As a team, Mooney’s pitchers have thrown four shutouts this spring and held eight of the 12 teams it has played to one run or less.

The Cardinals will play SVSV, Akron Hoban, Salem and the Chardon Hilltoppers this week.

No. 2 HOWLAND

High-scoring Howland jumps into the poll at No. 2 this week.

The Tigers, who are averaging 9.4 runs per game, posted wins over McDonald (10-3), Warren Harding (twice by scores of 14-0 and 12-1), Western Reserve Academy (10-2) and Girard (15-4) in its most recent games.

The Tigers, who are 8-3, will play Stow, Pymatuning Valley, Poland and Carrollton in action this week.

No. 3 LAKEVIEW

The Lakeview Bulldogs retain their No. 3 spot in the ratings.

The Bulldogs own a 10-4 record and are averaging 7.4 runs-per-game.

Lakeview defeated LaBrae (6-2) and Marlington (8-4) in its most recent contests.

The Bulldogs will play Poland and Warren Champion this week.

No. 4 YOUNGSTOWN URSULINE

The Youngstown Ursuline Irish hold down the No. 4 spot in the poll.

The Irish are 7-3 and are the only team to beat once-beaten and No. 1-ranked Cardinal Mooney (7-6) this season.

The Irish are scheduled to face Alliance, Warren JFK and Canfield this week.

No. 5 WARREN JFK

Warren JFK jumps into the poll at No. 5 this week.

The Eagles have compiled an 8-4 ledger against a demanding schedule.

The Eagles defeated Mogadore twice (15-2 and 10-3) as well as Youngstown Ursuline (6-1) and Grand Valley (9-8) last week.

The Eagles are averaging 7.6 runs per game.

Warren JFK will play Lake Center Christian and get a rematch with Ursuline this week.

No. 6 POLAND

Poland fell from No. 2 to No. 6 in the poll after splitting two of its last four games.

The Bulldogs (6-3) lost to Girard (4-1) and South Range (4-3) but defeated Niles (11-0) and Ashtabula St. John (7-1) in their most recent contests.

Poland will go up against Lakeview, Niles McKinley and Howland this week.

No. 7 WESTERN RESERVE

The Western Reserve Blue Devils remain No. 7 and round out this week’s diamond rankings.

The Blue Devils, who are 9-3 on the campaign, have won their last three games with triumphs over Lowellville (14-8), Jackson-Milton (10-6) and Mineral Ridge (4-2).

Western Reserve will face Maplewood, East Palestine and Mineral Ridge in a rematch this week.
