Austintown Fitch remained both unbeaten and the top-ranked team in this week’s mahoningmatters.com Super 7 softball poll. The top seven teams in the ratings own a combined record of 88-17.

Here’s a look at the rankings:

No. 1 AUSTINTOWN FITCH

The Fitch Falcons, who have won two state titles in their history, are in the midst of another outstanding season and maintained their No. 1 ranking in the poll. They have been the No. 1-ranked team for the past month.

The Falcons are 15-0 on the season and posted a pair of wins over Canfield by scores of 5-1 and 14-3 along with a 19-7 romp over the Massillon Tigers last week.

Fitch has outscored its foes by a 173-36 tally this spring.

The Falcons will play the rival Boardman Spartans twice this week.

No. 2 LAKEVIEW

Returning state qualifier Lakeview is in the midst of another outstanding campaign and remains No. 2 in the poll.

The Bulldogs, who lead the Northeast 8 standings, are 15-3 overall.

Lakeview has tallied 178 runs and yielded just 51 runs this spring.

Lakeview defeated three teams last week, including Niles McKinley (15-0), Tallmadge (3-2) and West Branch (11-1).

The Bulldogs will play Hubbard, Struthers and Warren Champion this week.

No. 3 CARDINAL MOONEY

Youngstown Cardinal Mooney jumped up from No. 4 to No. 3 in the rankings.

The Cardinals are 10-2 on the season and have won six games in a row, including triumphs over Massillon (7-4), Southeast (7-1) and Youngstown East (12-0) last week.

The Cardinals will face Steubenville, Warren Howland, Akron Hoban and Youngstown Ursuline this week.

No. 4 McDONALD

The McDonald Blue Devils vaulted into the rankings at No. 4 this week.

The Blue Devils are 12-2 and have captured victories in their past 10 straight contests.

McDonald posted wins over Waterloo (11-0 and 6-1) and Campbell Memorial (15-2 and 20-1) last week.

The Blue Devils will play Jackson-Milton, Springfield and Crestview this week.

No. 5 BOARDMAN

Boardman dropped from No. 3 to No. 5 in the ratings after splitting its two games last week.

The Spartans, who possess a 10-5 record, defeated Painesville Riverside (9-2) but lost to the Akron Hoban Knights (8-4) in their last two games.

The Spartans will play arch-rival Austintown Fitch this week.

No. 6 MAPLEWOOD

Maplewood holds down the No. 6 spot in the poll.

The Rockets are 14-1 and have won 14 games in a row.

They have outscored their opponents, 105-18.

The Rockets defeated Badger (5-1), United (6-0), Columbia (8-2) and the Strongsville Mustangs (2-0) last week.

Maplewood will play Lordstown, Bristol, Rootstown and Southington Chalker this week.

No. 7 LaBRAE

The LaBrae Vikings round out the poll at No. 7.

The Vikings own a 12-4 ledger and defeated Newton Falls (11-0) and Warren Harding (16-0) last week.

LaBrae will play Southeast and Jefferson Area this week.
