Boardman resident Rayshone Phillips recently secured first place at the division-level International Speech Contest in Mayfield Heights, a winning streak she’s hoping to continue into the next round.

Phillips is the president of Executive 408 Toastmasters Youngstown.

“I am so grateful for this moment,” said Phillips. “Each level brings stronger competition, and I’m grateful to represent my club and community. I’m excited to continue this journey and give my best at the next level.”

In the International Speech Contest, participants deliver an original five-to-seven-minute speech designed to inspire and connect with a diverse audience.

In March, Phillips took first place with her speech at the area-level competition in Kent.

After this most recent win, she’s moving on to the district-level International Speech Contest set for May 30 in Independence.

At this level, she’ll compete against winners from across the region for a chance to advance to the global stage.

The ultimate winner of the district contest will represent the region at the World Championship of Public Speaking during the Toastmasters International Convention, scheduled for August 19 through 22 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Phillips has been a Toastmaster since 2022, where she’s developed dynamic communication and leadership skills.

In her current role as president of Executive 408 Toastmasters, she helps cultivate a supportive environment for confident speakers and emerging leaders.

Outside of her Toastmasters involvement, Phillips is an entrepreneur and cosmetologist educator.

She’s the owner of The Head Spa Studio and founder of RayNa Scalp Care University, where she provides advanced training for beauty professionals.
