Pets Are People Too owner emphasizes holistic pet nutrition in Warren
Linda Yost is the owner of Pets Are People Too, where she sells premium quality food for dogs and cats, including food for raw diets, treats and flea products.
“I was my own first customer for a while. When I first started 22 years ago, I was my own customer for a while. I had one freeser. Now I have nine freezers,” Yost said.
Yost is certified in companion animal nutrition, having studied poor quality protein sources and their side effects in many commercially available pet food products.
“The main reason why I got into this is because of a cat I adopted 20 plus years ago,” she said. “He was a few years old and already had kidney problems, which is not great. He had been outside, which probably contributed to it, but poor quality diet, over-vaccination and chemical flea treatments cause all these health issues. So I sought out the help of a holistic vet.”
Yost said nutrition and proper supplements can help get to the root cause of any health problems pets have.
“I only carry things that I use or would use, because I’m not going to be a hypocrite. I’m all about the nutrition,” she said. “I call it the other side of medicine, not using prescriptions, just using good, good food. People are jumping more on board with it now, but it’s taken a while to try to reeducate and make people understand that that bag in the grocery store doesn’t cut it for a good quality diet.”
She also sells an intolerance kit for food and environmental stressors.
“Just like people do, pets suffer from all the processed foods that they’re eating, the poor quality, chemical preservatives. They’re not meant to eat plant based foods. They’re carnivores, especially cats,” Yost said.
