Youngstown Cardinal Mooney, which is riding a five-game winning streak, is once again the top-ranked team in this week’s mahoningmatters.com Super 7 baseball rankings.

Here’s a look at the poll:

No. 1 CARDINAL MOONEY

Mooney, which is out-scoring its opponents by nearly six runs per game, once again is No. 1 in the ratings.

The Cardinals are 15-2 on the season and are averaging 8.5 runs per game.

The Cards defeated Warred JFK 13-2 and the Howland Tigers 14-4 last week.

Mooney’s pitching staff is surrendering just two runs per game.

The Cardinals have a busy week ahead with games scheduled against Warren JFK, Canton Central Catholic, Alliance and University School.

No. 2 POLAND

Poland, which has been on a roll, vaults to No. 2 in the rankings.

The Bulldogs are 12-3 on the campaign and have won six games in a row.

Poland is averaging eight runs per contest.

The Bulldogs bested Struthers by scores of 16-2 and 11-1 last week, along with a 13-8 triumph over Niles McKinley.

Poland will face Hubbard, Canfield and the Carrollton Warriors this week.

No. 3 McDONALD

McDonald moves up a notch from No. 4 to No. 3 in the ratings.

The high-scoring Blue Devils own a 13-3 ledger and have captured five consecutive triumphs. McDonald is averaging 10.3 runs per outing.

The Blue Devils defeated Lowellville by scores of 14-2 and 15-4 and Springfield 10-0 last week.

McDonald will play Mineral Ridge, South Range and Western Reserve this week.

No. 4 CANFIELD

The Canfield Cardinals continue to inch up in the poll and are No. 4 this week.

The Cardinals are in the midst of a seven-game winning streak and their pitching staff has recorded six shutouts this season.

The Cards defeated Howland by scores of 4-0 and 13-4 and Parma Heights Holy Name 5-0 last week.

Canfield is penciled in against Louisville, West Branch, Poland and South Range this week.

No. 5 LaBRAE

The LaBrae Vikings jumped back into the poll this week at the No. 5 spot.

The Vikings (12-4) have won three games in a row.

LaBrae defeated Crestview by scores of 7-0 and 15-1 last week along with a 4-2 triumph over the Howland Tigers.

The Vikings will play Brookfield, Howland and Girard this week.

No. 6 LAKEVIEW

Lakeview enters the rankings at No. 6 this week.

The Bulldogs, who are 14-6, are in the midst of a four-game winning streak.

The Bulldogs defeated Girard by scores of 10-4 and 7-3 last week. They also defeated the Warren Harding Raiders by a 12-0 final.

Lakeview will play Struthers and West Branch this week.

No. 7 YOUNGSTOWN URSULINE

Youngstown Ursuline once again rounds out the poll at No. 7.

The Irish, who play a daunting schedule, are 9-6 and defeated the Massillon Tigers 7-6 in their most recent contest.

The Irish will go up against South Range and West Branch, two former state baseball champions, this week.
