Spring and summer-like temperatures are rising this time of year in Ohio, which means cutting your grass is probably a regular task on the checklist.
However, before you get your mower cranked, you should know one super important detail in keeping your grass healthy and your yard looking manicured.
We did some research about the best time of day to mow your grass and here’s what we found:
What is the best time of day to mow your Ohio lawn?
According to Troy-Built, mid-morning is the best time of day to cut the grass.
“Mid-morning (between 8 and 10 a.m.) tends to be the best time of day for mowing your lawn. It allows enough time for dew to dry, resulting in strong, perky blades of grades, while avoiding the hottest periods of the day,” experts said.
Another great time is between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. when the sun isn’t as high and the temperature isn’t as hot.
And when should you not mow it?
Troy-Built experts said to not mow your grass close to nightfall because it creates fungus build up and it won’t give your lawn enough time to recover before morning.

Spring is usually the rainy season. Opt for a later mowing time, if needed, to allow the dew and rainwater to evaporate.
Don’t mow dormant or drought-stricken grass during the summer. If you experience summer storms, wait until the grass is dry before you mow.
Southern Living experts also recommend sharpening your mower blades and make sure you are mowing at the right height. These things will help prevent tearing grass blades and pulling up excess water.
