Take a look at Mahoning Matters Super 7 high school softball ranking
Austintown Fitch, which completed a perfect 22-0 regular season and begins what should be a long and successful Division I tournament run this week, remains the top-ranked team in this week’s mahoningmatters.com Super 7 softball poll.
Here’s a look at the rankings in which the ranked teams own a composite record of 158-32:
No. 1 AUSTINTOWN FITCH
The Austintown Fitch Falcons, who won the All-American Conference title, are once again No. 1 in the rankings and have been since the second week of the season.
Fitch (22-0) blanked Painesville Riverside 8-0 last week.
The Falcons are averaging a staggering 12.1 runs per game, while surrendering just 1.9 runs per contest.
The Falcons begin Division I district tourney action this week.
No. 2 WARREN CHAMPION
The Champion Golden Flashes vault to No. 2 in the poll.
Champion (18-5) won its tier of the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference and posted league wins over Garrettsville Garfield (10-0) and Southeast (12-11) last week.
The Flashes will be involved in Division V district action this week.
No. 3 LAKEVIEW
Lakeview, which captured the Northeast 8 title this spring, moved up to No. 3 in the poll.
The Bulldogs’ explosive offense is averaging 10 runs per game.
Lakeview, which is 21-5, bested the Chardon Hilltoppers 19-9 last week.
The Bulldogs will be involved in Division IV district tournament play this week.
No. 4 CARDINAL MOONEY
Cardinal Mooney holds down the No. 4 spot in the rankings.
The Cardinals, who are 15-6, split their two games last week, falling to Louisville but beating formerly No. 2-ranked Beaver Local (5-1).
The Cards will be playing in the Division 5 district this week.
No. 5 BEAVER LOCAL
Beaver Local is No. 5 in the ratings after splitting its two games last week.
The Beavers, who won the Buckeye 8 championship this season, defeated the Philo Electrics 10-3 but lost to Cardinal Mooney 5-1 last week.
Beaver Local, which is 23-4, will be playing in Division IV district tourney action this week.
No.6 MAPLEWOOD
Maplewood, which owns a 23-2 ledger, is ranked No. 6.
The Rockets split their two contests last week, defeating the Ashtabula Edgewood Warriors 2-1 but falling to the Southington Chalker Wildcats 3-1.
Maplewood will be playing in Division VII district tourney action this week.
No. 7 (tie) SOUTH RANGE
South Range is in a tie for the No. 7 spot in the poll.
The Raiders, who sport an 18-7 record, have won three games in a row, including triumphs over North Canton Hoover (3-0) and Akron Hoban (8-1) last week.
South Range is playing in Division V district tourney action this week.
No. 7 (tie) McDONALD
McDonald is in a tie with South Range for the No. 7 spot in the ratings.
The Blue Devils own an 18-3 record and have won 15 of their past 16 games.
They will be playing in Division 6 district action this week.
