LOOP Youngstown hosting dedication ceremony for new arts center
In April, LOOP Youngstown purchased a building on Mahoning Avenue and announced the site’s future as an arts hub intended to serve as an investment in the city’s creativity for generations to come.
Karen Schubert, chair of the local non-profit, previously shared the search for the arts center site took over two years.
“This is the kind of project that could fit itself into many different kinds of spaces,” Schubert said. “But now that we’re settling into this space, it feels all kinds of perfect for us.”
LOOP Youngstown is inviting community members to a dedication ceremony for the new arts center at 2 p.m. on June 7 at 805 Mahoning Ave. in Youngstown.
Members of the public will be able to see the center’s 30 artist studios, learn about LOOP’s mission and meet members of LOOP’s board and advisory council.
The dedication marks a major milestone in LOOP Youngstown’s mission to create a permanent, accessible space for artists, creative businesses, and public programming in the Mahoning Valley.
During the dedication event, organizers invited special guests to speak, like Dave Mirkin who will share stories about his family’s connection to the building.
Mirkin’s grandfather built the original car showroom at 805 Mahoning Ave. in 1946.
Doors open for the event at 1 p.m. Hear from Angelo Lo Castro of Bridgeway Capital about the economic and social impact of supporting the arts.
Vaughn Wascovich, coordinator of LOOP’s 2026 Emerging Artist Fellowship program, will also be introducing 3D artist Willem Schreiber and abstract painter Deidre Bilunka. They’re both part of LOOP’s 2026 fellowship cohort.
