The Office of Catholic Schools at the Diocese of Youngstown has announced the appointment of Sarah Sciarretti as the new principal of Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic School in Canton. She is currently employed at the school and spent time as Assistant Principal and as a 6th grade teacher.

Sciarretti has been an educator for more than 20 years, starting out as a teacher in Garfield Elementary School where she was awarded the District Teacher of the Year Award in 2006. She later served at Dover Avenue Elementary and West Elementary before moving to St. Michael School in 2020. A graduate of Ashland University, Sciarretti also earned a Master’s Degree from The Ohio State University.

On her appointment, Sciarretti said she feels very blessed for the opportunity to serve the St. Michael School and parish community as principal.

“Catholic education is a gift and has been an important part of our family’s foundation. I am excited to work with Father Benson, as well as our fabulous faculty and staff, to ensure that the Gospel of Jesus is proclaimed and lived through prayer and worship, academic excellence, and Christian service to our community,” she said. “St. Michael School will continue to be a rigorous academic center and a place where children and families feel Christ’s love.”

Superintendent Dr. Steven Jones said he is very grateful to Sciarretti for accepting the call to move in this new direction.

“She is a tireless advocate for her school and I know will build on the excellent foundation she’s inherited,” he said. “I’m excited to see what’s next for St. Michael’s.”

Father Benson Okpara, pastor of St. Michael said he was impressed by her dedication to her family and the students of St. Michael School. He said Sciarretti is a strong advocate for the values of Catholic education, and the school’s mission is in good hands.

She begins her new role on July 1.
