Youngstown Cardinal Mooney, which sports a blend of stellar pitching and an explosive offense, remains the top-ranked team in this week’s mahoningmatters.com Super 7 high school baseball poll.

Here’s a look at the latest rankings which includes some new teams in the poll:

No. 1 CARDINAL MOONEY

Cardinal Mooney, a winner of 10 of its past 11 contests, holds down the No. 1 spot in the ratings again this week.

The Cardinals sport a record of 20-3 and are averaging nine runs per game while its pitching staff is yielding less than a run per contest.

The No. 1-seeded Cardinals won a Division IV sectional crown last week in a 14-1 rout of the 30th-seeded Niles McKinley Red Dragons.

Mooney will face 17th-seeded Parma Heights Holy Name in a district semifinal this week.

No. 2 CANFIELD

Canfield is once again No. 2 in the rankings.

The red-hot Cardinals have rolled to 13 straight wins and easily won a Division III sectional championship last week when it slayed the Ashtabula Lakeside Dragons, 19-0.

The 11th-seeded Cardinals, who are 20-7, are averaging over seven runs per game and its mound staff has held nine of its opponents to a run or less.

The Cardinals will play the 14th-seeded Louisville Leopards in a Division III district semifinal this week.

No. 3 LAKEVIEW

Lakeview is the No. 3-ranked team in the poll.

The Bulldogs, who are 18-7 on the campaign, have won eight of their past nine games.

Lakeview, the No. 2 seed in the postseason tournament, will go up against the 22nd-seeded Garrettsville Garfield G-Men in a district semi this week.

No. 4 McDONALD

Small school power McDonald is once again the No. 4 team in the rankings.

The Blue Devils are 16-5 and pitching has been its strength all season. The Blue Devils’ staff is only surrendering an average of 2.6 runs per contest.

McDonald, which drew a first-round bye in the tournament, will play the Leetonia Bears in a Division VII district seminal this week.

No. 5 POLAND

The Poland Bulldogs jump up to No. 5 in the ratings.

The Bulldogs are allowing an average of just over three runs per contest.

The fifth-seeded Bulldogs, who are 16-6, defeated the Howland Tigers 11-1 last week and received a bye to this week’s district semifinal where they will play 12th-seeded South Range Raiders.

No. 6 LaBRAE

The LaBrae Vikings are once again No. 6 in the poll.

The Vikings are 17-5 and have won seven of their past eight games.

Sixth-seeded LaBrae won a Division VI sectional championship last week with a 9-1 rout of the 27th-seeded Loudonville Redbirds.

The Vikings are slated to play the winner of the Lisbon-Dalton game in a Division VI district semifinal this week.

No. 7 MAPLEWOOD

The Maplewood Rockets enter the poll this week at No. 7.

The fourth-seeded Rockets, who possess a 14-9-1 record, won a Division VII sectional title last week with an 11-1 romp over No. 16 seed Middlefield Cardinal.

The Rockets will go up against the second-seeded Western Reserve Blue Devils in a Division VII district semifinal this week.
