Annual Mahoning Valley high school football classic set for June 4
It’s one of the earliest high school all-star football games of the pre-summer season.
The 40th annual ScoutingOhio.com Mahoning Valley Coaches Association Jack Arvin Football Classic is set for Thursday, June 4 at 7 p.m. at Hubbard’s 5,000-seat Memorial Stadium.
The annual event, which alternates between Mahoning and Trumbull County sites, attracts approximately 2,000-3,000 fans.
The game features top graduating seniors from Mahoning and Columbiana counties against their counterparts from Trumbull County.
Some of the greatest players from the Mahoning Valley have suited up to play in the Jack Arvin Classic since the inception of the contest.
The two teams have split the previous two meetings. Trumbull County pulled out a 10-7 triumph over the Mahoning/Columbiana team in a defensive struggle played at Mineral Ridge’s Joe Lane Stadium in 2024.
The Columbiana/Mahoning team returned the favor last season when it topped Trumbull County 21-3 in a contest played on the turf at Youngstown Liberty’s Leopard Stadium.
High Schools with representatives playing for the Mahoning/Columbiana stars include Austintown Fitch, Boardman, Struthers, Canfield, Springfield, Youngstown East, Leetonia, Western Reserve, Youngstown Ursuline, Youngstown Cardinal Mooney, Youngstown Chaney, Jackson-Milton and Lowellville.
High Schools with players chosen for the Trumbull County All-Stars include Warren G. Harding, Warren Howland, Hubbard, LaBrae, Warren JFK, Lakeview, McDonald, Mineral Ridge, Youngstown Liberty, Newton Falls, Warren Champion and Brookfield.
