Family-owned grocery stores open every Sunday for first time in Mahoning County
Researchers have found that, in 2026, the most popular time for the average American to shop for groceries is on a weekend between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. This is when 20% of U.S. consumers visit their grocery stores.
A family-owned grocer founded in 1917 announced a slight change to their weekly hours of operation.
For the first time, both Rulli Bros. grocery store locations are open on Sunday from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. at 4331 Kirk Road in Austintown and 8025 South Ave. in Boardman.
“Our decision was not made lightly, but in response to how family routines and customer needs have evolved,” Rulli Bros. posted on Facebook in May. “For many families, Sundays have become an important day for grocery shopping and preparing for the week ahead.”
Previously, Rulli Bros. grocery stores have remained closed on Sundays.
“We have always prided ourselves on our heritage and traditions. However, adapting to the needs of modern day shoppers is how our family has continued to serve our community for the past 110 years,” the announcement reads.
The Rulli Bros’ Italian Gourmet Market began as a small storefront operation started by brothers Nicola and Frank Rulli, who were immigrants from Italy.
Since then, the Rulli descendants have continued to grow the business which expanded into a full-service grocery store with two locations.
