Salem High School will join the Youngstown-based Northeast 8 Athletic Conference for all sports except football starting in the 2027-2028 season.

The Youngstown-based Northeast 8 Athletic Conference officially added Salem High School as an eighth member during an announcement over the weekend.

The Quakers will be a member of the Northeast 8 in all sports but football after it honors a two-year exit commitment from the Eastern Buckeye Conference.

The Quakers will remain part of the Eastern Buckeye Conference in football, along with Alliance, West Branch, Howland and a possible school to be named.

The Eastern Buckeye Conference lost three members when Marlington, Carrollton and Minerva high schools announced this winter that they will depart the EBC for the newly formed Northeast Senate League. Schools in that league will also include Claymont, Sandy Valley, Fairless, Tuslaw and Tusky Valley.

The addition of Salem to the Northeast 8 Athletic Conference is the latest announcement in a year of changes to as many of five northeastern Ohio leagues. Leagues that have undergone school membership changes, which will begin in the future, include the Principals Athletic Conference, Inter Valley Conference, Eastern Buckeye Conference and Northeast 8 Athletic Conference.

The Youngstown-based All-American Conference is also currently considering possible membership additions which could be announced this summer.
