Niles community and city leaders come together to cut ribbon at Riverside Park
The city of Niles leaders and community supporters hosted a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony at Riverside Park, the city’s initiative to enhance downtown economic development and promote water recreation.
The grand opening took place on May 28 at Riverside Park, located near the Mahoning River on the corner of First and Brown Streets.
Niles Mayor Steve Mientkiewicz, Eastgate Regional Council of Governments director Jim Kinnick and Governor’s Office of Appalachia director John Carey spoke during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The park was funded by the Appalachian Community Grant Program’s $3.5 million grant for the city of Niles’ Downtown Riverfront Revitalization Project.
Features of the park include a new pavilion, plus kayak and canoe launching area.
Jimmy Julian is the Niles city councilman-at-large.
“Riverside Park will not only provide new recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike, but also help strengthen economic development and showcase the natural beauty of our city,” he said. “Personally, I’m excited to purchase a kayak and experience the fun and excitement of the new launch area myself this summer, and I encourage everyone throughout the community to stop down and enjoy everything Riverside Park has to offer.”
