State-bound Youngstown Cardinal Mooney tops this week’s mahoningmatters.com Super 7 high school baseball poll.

Here’s a look at the rankings:

No. 1 CARDINAL MOONEY

Youngstown Cardinal Mooney, which won a Division IV regional championship and qualified for this week’s state tourney, is the No. 1-ranked team in this week’s rankings.

The top-seeded Cardinals won a D4 regional crown last week with a 3-1 triumph over the seventh-seeded Field Falcons.

Mooney is 24-3 on the season and is averaging 8.1 runs-per-game while its pitching staff is giving up an average of 2.9 runs-per-contest.

The Cardinals will play the Sandusky Perkins Pirates in a Division IV state semifinal Saturday at 10 a.m. at Akron’s 17 Credit Union Park (formerly Canal Park).

No. 2 POLAND

Poland, which advanced all the way to the Division V regional final, checks in at No. 2 in this week’s rankings.

The Bulldogs defeated Lakeview 8-1 in the regional semifinal but dropped a 5-1 decision to the Waynedale Golden Bears in the regional championship, as Waynedale advanced to state.

Poland concluded its season with a record of 19-7 and won the Northeast 8 Conference championship this spring.

No. 3 LAKEVIEW

Lakeview, which was a Division V regional qualifier, is No. 3 in the poll.

The Bulldogs won sectional and district titles before being eliminated by Poland in the regional semifinals.

Lakeview ends the campaign with a final ledger of 20-8.

No. 4 LaBRAE

LaBrae, which won a D6 district title and qualified for regional action, holds down the No. 4 spot in the ratings.

The Vikings dropped a 9-6 decision to Hartville Lake Center Christian in a D6 regional semifinal last week in Louisville. Lake Center Christian went on to qualify for the state tourney.

LaBrae finished the season with a record of 20-6.

No. 5 MAPLEWOOD

The Maplewood Rockets are No. 5 in the poll.

Maplewood qualified for the small school D7 regional where it was defeated by eventual state qualifier Tiffin Calvert.

The Rockets finished the year with a record of 17-10-1.

No. 6 CANFIELD

Canfield earned the No. 6 spot in the poll.

The Cardinals were eliminated 5-4 by University School in a Division III district title game.

Canfield finished the season with a record of 21-8.

No. 7 McDONALD

The McDonald Blue Devils round out the ratings at No. 7.

The Blue Devils, who won the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Scarlet Tier crown this spring, advanced to the Division VII district title contest before bowing out in a 5-4 loss to Kidron Central Christian.

The Blue Devils posted a 17-6 record this season.
