Community organizations volunteer to help build inclusive playground in Hubbard

The Hubbard Youth Coalition invited community members to play and try out the newly completed inclusive playground on June 15 at the Roosevelt Student Wellness Center in Hubbard.

Construction began on the inclusive playground at the Roosevelt Student Wellness Center at 110 Orchard Ave. SE on March 30.

Beginning on April 18, community members and businesses volunteered for three days of building and installing playground equipment, including Walmart team members from Liberty and Hermitage, Lowe’s in Hermitage, HCH Construction Services Inc., Belleria Pizza of Hubbard and more.

“Because of this collective effort, the community build saved nearly $18,000—making this playground more accessible and achievable for everyone involved,” the Hubbard Youth Coalition posted online.

HYC thanked Pete and Kelly Verostko, along with their son Peter, at Peter’s Patrol who raised $4,300 for the playground at Roosevelt Student Wellness Center.

GRAF Concrete Pumping, The Lauretta Foundation and Strollo Architects provided donations for the project, which HYC describes as “much more than a playground.”

“It’s a commitment to creating a space where every child, of every ability, can play, connect and belong,” HYC wrote online.

The playground is fully wheelchair accessible.

HYC, a non-profit 501(c)(3) public charity, completed a renovation of the inside of the Roosevelt Student Wellness Center between 2024 and 2025, including creating a large multipurpose room and new lighting fixtures throughout the facility.
