Mahoning Valley Scrappers arrive in Niles for 2 homestands
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers will return to 7 17 Credit Union Field this week for two homestands with can’t-miss themed days.
On Tuesday, June 30, and Wednesday, July 1, the Scrappers will face off against the Trenton Thunder after dropping last week’s three-game series (8-8, 5-8, 3-4). Just a few days later — on Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5 — the West Virginia Black Bears will arrive in town.
The Scrapper’s last games with home-field advantage were against Canada in a 2-1 series win (12-3, 3-16, 10-3) from June 19-21. The team’s next return to the stadium in Niles won’t be until July 14.
Below is a look at the week ahead:
Tuesday, June 30
Presented by the Italian Food Trail and 21 WFMJ, the Scrappers will transform into the Peppers in Oil and will allow fans to do the same by auctioning off the specialty team jerseys in person and on Live Source’s website. Auction proceeds will go toward the Youngstown Blue Coats.
Peppers in Oil merchandise will also be available, alongside samples of peppers in oil, with one earning the right of fan favorite.
Simultaneously, it will be Hometown Heroes Night, presented by Physicians Ambulance, which offers first responders and healthcare workers two free upper box seat tickets by showing their ID. Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course will also put forth the Liberty, Hubbard, Girard Community Day on Tuesday, June 30.
Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
Wednesday, July 1
Military Appreciation Night, courtesy of the Ohio Lottery and 33 WYTV, will follow the first game against Trenton and will give two free upper box seat tickets to attendees with valid military ID.
Fans won’t be left on an empty stomach because it’s also Pizza Joe’s $2 Pizza Slice Night. Dr. Dennis Benton will present Niles Community Day, too. It all starts at 7:05 p.m.
Saturday, July 4
The Scrappers will have their own night of fireworks on the Fourth of July after their 7:05 p.m. game start, made possible by Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service, the Rotary Club of Warren, 21 WFMJ, and WBCB. America 250 jerseys will be available as part of the team’s uniform and an auction — in person and virtually with Live Source — with proceeds supporting the Rotary Club of Warren.
Along with the jerseys, America 250 Scrappers hats will be ready for purchase.
Sunday, July 5
Ending the homestand is Valley Health Services Resource Day, Every Sunday Matters and Youth League Day, presented by Axess Family Services, Foxconn and 21 WFMJ and DICK’S Sporting Goods, respectively.
By bringing a nonperishable food item or a new children’s book, fans can obtain a free general admission ticket. Kids can earn a free upper box seat ticket by wearing their youth league jersey and can run the bases after the game, which is set for 2:05 p.m.
