Mammography screening van to drive through Mahoning Valley in July
The Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center will send its mobile mammography van throughout northeast Ohio in July to strengthen the accessibility to quality care for women in the Mahoning Valley.
Part of Mercy Health — St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, JACBCC opened in 2011 and “was created to deliver the most accurate prevention, early detection, diagnosis and support services” in the area, according to its website.
As the first of its kind in eastern Ohio to provide 3D mammography, the van uses similar high-quality technology and equipment that are also available at JACBCC. The 3D mammography allows for an in-depth breast examination, and with its patient-assisted compression, the van also prioritizes comfort.

JACBCC double-checks all mammograms with a computer-aided detection system, and a copy of a patient’s results will be sent to their physician. Insurance carriers often cover screening mammograms through a benefit, though financial assistance for the mobile screening will also be available.
