Chick-fil-A workers fell in love over ‘their first chicken nugget.’ Now they’re engaged
Two Chick-fil-A workers fell in love over “their first chicken nugget” — then came a special marriage proposal.
“We knew it was meant to be,” Azeem Warthen of North Carolina told ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner.
Warthen was at a New Year’s Eve party with his now-fiancee — Sarah Love — when he got down on one knee. A photo shared with ABC11 show the bride-to-be with her mouth wide open, while another shows the couple embracing.
Now, the newly engaged pair — who met at Chick-fil-A — plan to get married. To make sure their co-workers can join the celebration, the wedding is planned for a Sunday, when the fast-food restaurant is famously closed.
The couple’s romance blossomed after the two started working at the Chick-fil-A on North Roxboro Street in Durham. They became friends before going on their first date in December 2021, according to the couple and a Facebook post from the restaurant.
The Durham restaurant in its Jan. 5 post said the couple “knew it was love when they shared their first chicken nugget. Now they’re engaged and we can’t wait for them to become the Warthens!”
In less than two weeks, the Facebook post racked up about 63,000 reactions and more than 1,000 comments. Fans couldn’t get enough of the love story as they chimed in to congratulate the couple about their engagement.
“This is literally a dream come true,” Warthen told ABC11.
A Facebook user believed to be Warthen didn’t immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment on Jan. 17.
