A woman who hadn’t been seen in nearly two weeks was found dead in the woods, not long after her abandoned SUV was discovered, Alabama authorities said.

Quanisha Davis was 30. Her boyfriend, 55-year-old Robert Young, has now been charged with murder.

McClatchy News could not search for Young’s attorney information in Tallapoosa County records.

Davis was last heard from May 17 and posted on Facebook for the last time May 19, before she was reported missing to law enforcement May 24, according to Alexander City Police Chief Jay Turner.

The mother from Alexander City was last seen in the nearby city of Dadeville, AL.com reported.

Family and friends began putting out calls for help searching for her, asking anyone with information to reach out.

“Please contact me if you see her even if you seen her in the past week I need all the info,” a family member wrote on Facebook. “She is my niece and she always contacts us or responds to us every week.”

But as the investigation progressed, it transitioned from a missing person case to a homicide case, Turner said in a joint news conference with other local agencies, broadcast by The Alexander City Outlook.

The Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office asked for help locating Davis’ white Ford Explorer, which was also missing. The SUV was found abandoned in a wooded area on May 29, Turner said.

But the agencies received other information that eventually led to the discovery of her body the next day, about three to five miles from where her car was found, Tallapoosa County Sheriff Jimmy Abbett said in the news conference.

Shortly before 8 a.m. May 30, her body was found in the woods, and a few hours later, Young was arrested and charged with murder, officials said.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences is conducting an autopsy to determine Davis’ cause of death.

Friends described Davis as funny and down-to-earth, some calling her “everything.”

“She was the absolute best big sister I could ever ask for Lord why her,” her sister wrote on Facebook, calling Davis the other half of her heart and promising to help take care of her kids. “Life will never be the same without you here.”

Alexander City is about a 50-mile drive northeast from Montgomery.
