UPDATE: On June 11, a spokesperson for Burlington Animal Services in North Carolina told McClatchy News in an email that Olivia was adopted.

The original story is below.

A “sweet” dog’s sick owner couldn’t keep her — and now, she needs a new home.

“Olivia is a true gem, with a heart full of love and extremely bright spirits,” her one-time foster parent told a North Carolina shelter. “She is incredibly loving and forms a deep bond with those around her. She craves companionship and will undoubtedly make a loyal friend to her future family.”

The shelter — Burlington Animal Services — posted Olivia’s story June 9 on Facebook. The shelter hopes the dog will get to share her “special love” with a new family after experiencing a rough patch.

“She came to us in February as a stray and was adopted soon after,” the shelter wrote. “Sadly, her adopter became very ill and was no longer able to keep her but had many good things to say about her.”

Her former foster parent also showered her with praise, calling her a “sweet” but timid pup who “thrives around other dogs.” She also enjoys playing but will curl up on her bed when it’s time to rest.

“If you are looking for a nap buddy, Olivia is your girl,” the family wrote. “She has so much love to give and deserves a chance to flourish in a forever home.”

As of June 9, Olivia was in need of a new owner. More details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at burlingtonnc.gov/2207/animal-services.

Burlington Animal Services didn’t reveal Olivia’s breed or age and didn’t immediately share additional details with McClatchy News on June 10.

The shelter is a roughly 25-mile drive east from Greensboro.
