The hunt for an escaped inmate in the Houston area ended after 12 hours when authorities located him at a relative’s home, a Texas sheriff’s office said.

Joshua Nigel Thomas Sanders, 35, was being transported from the Harris County Jail to a courthouse when he broke free around 3 p.m. June 13, deputies said in a news conference.

He then attempted to carjack a district attorney’s office employee, holding them at knife point, according to KTRK.

He acquired the knife after his escape, authorities said at the news conference.

Deputies found Sanders at approximately 3 a.m. June 14 at his mother’s home, deputies and KTRK reported. He resisted arrest, according to deputies, and was tased.

He was taken to the hospital and is expected to return to Harris County Jail, deputies said.

Two others, believed to be his mother and sister, were also arrested with Sanders, according to KTRK.

Deputies said they were “hindering apprehension.”

Sanders will face new charges of escape and aggravated robbery, deputies said.
