51-year-old’s drowning is second death at Orlando resort in two months, Florida cops say
A 51-year-old man died after he was found unresponsive in a pool at a popular Orlando resort, Florida authorities said.
The medical examiner determined Douglas Reid accidentally drowned.
Reid is the second Discovery Cove guest in less than two months to be found unconscious in the water and later die, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly after 10 a.m. on July 8, deputies said they responded to a call about Reid. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died that night, officials said.
In a statement to WOFL, Discovery Cove confirmed Reid was a guest at the Orlando resort.
“Our team provided care and contacted Orange County Fire & Rescue,” the park told the outlet. “When emergency personnel arrived, they took over care and transported the guest to a nearby hospital. Our thoughts are with this family.”
Reid’s drowning closely follows the death of 13-year-old Anna Beaumont, who was pulled unresponsive from a Discovery Cove pool on May 28 and died the next day, according to deputies.
Discovery Cove is a day resort affiliated with SeaWorld where guests can snorkel with marine life and swim with dolphins.
