Kitten found outside movie theater waited as others got adopted. She still needs home
A kitten waited as other cats got adopted — but she still needs a home of her own.
“Vivien Leigh is the last kitten from her litter of movie stars to be seeking stardom in a new home,” a North Carolina shelter wrote Aug. 19 on Facebook. “This sweet tortie gal has cycled through roommate after roommate who were adopted, leaving her the sole moody beauty.”
Vivien, named after the actress who starred in “Gone with the Wind” and “A Streetcar Named Desire,” was one of five kittens found in a movie theater parking lot. So, it’s fitting that the other four kittens also got Hollywood-inspired names: Faye Dunaway, Clark Gable, Greta Garbo and Natalie Wood, according to Catman2 Shelter.
The kittens — believed to be siblings — were part of a larger cat colony living near the theater in the mountain town of Sylva. They were picked up in early July, and four of the kittens have since been adopted, shelter director Kaleb Lynch told McClatchy News in a phone interview.
As of Aug. 20, Vivien was the only one of the kittens still waiting for a home. She’s described as the shyest member of the movie star bunch.
“A lot of people want instant gratification when it comes to getting a kitten,” Lynch said. “They want it to be ready to snuggle up.”
Meanwhile, Vivien takes time to open up to people. She “pretends to not to want to be held and cuddled” but then “melts into the arms of visitors and volunteers,” the shelter said.
“Vivien Leigh is a beautiful tortie gal with just enough sass to keep things fun and interesting,” the shelter wrote in an online adoption profile. “She’s just a kitten, learning that people are very good for holding and cuddles and big treat dispensers. She likes to play and cuddle with other kitties.”
The shelter hopes 3-month-old Vivien will be matched with a patient owner willing to build a relationship with her. More details about the animal organization’s adoption process can be found at catman2.org.
Catman2 is in Cullowhee, near Sylva and a roughly 55-mile drive southwest from Asheville.
