A member of a work crew was killed in a bee attack while on the roof of a retirement community in Arizona, police said.

The workers were stung at about 9:30 a.m. July 7 at Vi at Silverstone senior living, the Scottsdale Police Department said in a news release.

One worker was in a cherry picker, an elevating machine, when they were stung, the city’s fire department told KPNX.

The other two workers tried to help the first worker, and they were then stung by the bees, fire officials told the news outlet.

All three workers were taken to a hospital, where one died, and the other two workers were listed in “stable condition,” police said.

As of July 8, there are no updates on their current condition, however, they are expected to fully recover, police said.

Authorities do not know how many times the workers were stung.

Police are still working on notifying the first worker’s next-of-kin, so the person has not been identified yet.

The investigation is ongoing.

Scottsdale is in the Phoenix metro area.

What to do if you are attacked by bees

If you are being attacked by a swarm of bees, the first thing you should do is run, according to the City of Chandler.

If it’s possible, try to find a shelter or a building to run into and pull your shirt over your head to protect your eyes and face, the city said.

Avoid flailing your arms or trying to swat the bees, as it will “annoy them.”

And do not jump into a pool, the city said. Some bees will wait at the surface of the water until you come up for air.

If you see someone getting stung by bees, call 911 immediately and try to cover their body with something if they can’t get away.
