Trumbull County voters pick their candidates for county office, court judges — O’Brien defeats Cantalamessa

Former state Sen. Sean O’Brien secured 75% of the vote to defeat former Mahoning County prosecutor Dawn Cantalamessa in Tuesday’s Democratic primary for Trumbull County Common Pleas Court judge.

Democrat Michael J. O’Brien of Warren and Republican Denny Malloy of Cortland won their parties’ nominations for county commissioner.

Here are the latest unofficial election results for the contested races in Trumbull County — including partisan contests for county commissioner, auditor and Common Pleas and appellate judges — from the Trumbull County Board of Elections.

Democrat

Trumbull County Commissioner

Four-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2023

  • Michael J. O’Brien of Warren: 12,983 votes (80.64%)
  • David M. Guarino of Warren: 3,117 votes (19.36%)

Trumbull County Auditor

Four-year term beginning March 13, 2023

  • Tod M. Latell of Girard: 8,905 votes (56.38%)
  • Tom Shay of Leavittsburg: 6,891 votes (43.62%)

Trumbull County Common Pleas Court judge

Six-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2023

  • Sean J. O’Brien of Hubbard:12,251 votes (75.15%)
  • Dawn Cantalamessa of Warren: 4,052 votes (24.85%)

Republican

Trumbull County Commissioner

Four-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2023

  • Denny Malloy of Cortland: 6,907 votes (43.81%)

  • Rick Hernandez of Hubbard: 4,794 votes (30.41%)

  • Christina D. Lee of Bristolville: 4,065 votes (25.78%)

11th District Court of Appeals Judge

Unexpired term ending Feb. 8, 2025

  • Sarah Thomas Kovoor: 9,789 votes (67.39%)

  • John J. Eklund (incumbent): 4,736 votes (32.61%)
