Here’s where Ohio stands among top 10 states facing most drug overdose deaths

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drugs have been tragically tearing more families apart since 2010.

In 2022, over 100,000 Americans died from drug overdoses, the highest percentage of the population in history to succumb to overdoses.

States with the highest drug overdose fatality rates

Addiction treatment specialists at the Amethyst Recovery Center studied data from the CDC.

They wanted to determine which states have seen the most fatal drug overdoses and whose residents are most at risk.

Analysts looked at data from January to December of 2022 for this list.

Ohio ranks eighth out of the top ten states for the highest drug overdose fatality rates.

In Ohio, there were 43.7 deaths per 100,000 people in 2022.

The state with the highest at-risk is West Virginia, according to the list by Amethyst Recovery Center.

Per 100,000 people, there were 75.3 fatal overdoses in West Virginia in 2022.

Other at-risk states at the top of the list include Tennessee, Delaware, Louisiana and Maine.

South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Texas had the fewest overdose fatalities in 2022.
