Oct. 1, 1957 — Sept. 17, 2020 (age 62)
LORDSTOWN — Karen Jean Messenger, 62, received her wings on Sept. 17 in St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Karen was born in Warren on Oct. 1, 1957.
She was loving raised by her mother and stepfather, Naomi Luna and Charles William “Bill” Luna, Sr.
Karen loved everything to do with ladybugs, she even had a convertible black and red VW bug.
She loved her little dachshund, Honey.
She enjoyed sewing, crafting, traveling, camping and shopping with her sister Vicki. She was always happy when spending time with her daughter Nikki and family at her home in Kinsman.
She loved the great state of West Virginia! She loved and shared a special bond with her brother-in law and sister- in law, Tim and Bridgett Syrews and all her West Virginia family. She held close the long drives through the beautiful state and truly treasured the peace it brought to her.
She was the best at planning a party and was always the first to help out with that! She absolutely loved baking and we all loved eating her cookies and zucchini bread!
Karen and her husband, Scott, shared a love that was unlike any other. They are truly best friends and each other’s sidekicks for life, and will remain so until they meet again! She loved sitting on the back of Scott’s motorcycle and riding away!
Her babies (as she would call them) Jared, Lilly, and Emmett, were her life! She watched her grandchildren often while Nikki worked. The bond between them was unmatched. She was the most amazing, caring and loving nunna to them. They could do no wrong in her eyes.
Nikki and Karen were inseparable, they did absolutely everything together. Nikki took Karen everywhere with her — deer park, the zoo, swimming, camping, just anywhere they could find an adventure or a fun day with the kids!
She loved her Chase Michael Newell from the very second he was born. She loved watching him grow into just an amazing young man. Her heart will forever be filled with their love for each other.
Karen is survived by her loving husband of 25 years (together 36), Scott Messenger “Bub”; her
sisters Candace Newell and Vicki (Scott) Sutherland; her brother, Bill (Holly) Luna; a special brother-in-law, Billy (Patty) Newell; her two children, Jeffrey (Bridget) Brainard and Nicole (Matt) Schmidt; grandchildren Emma Brainard, Nathan Brainard, Jared "Judd" Schmidt, Lilly “Sissy” Schmidt, Emmett (Tubba) Schmidt and Chase Newell, who had a special place in Karen’s heart; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Naomi Luna, and her sister, Toni Jo Bresenhan.
Karen fought her battle with pancreatic cancer until the very end. Her goal was to ring the bell at the end of her last chemotherapy session, unfortunately God had other plans for her. She ended her fight surrounded by all her families love, she went peacefully to be with the Lord.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours, per her request.
Arrangements for Karen were entrusted to Borowski Funeral Services and Oak Meadow Cremation Services.
