June 13, 1948 — Sept. 14, 2021 (age 73)

Shirley Ann Agrast Rice passed away Tuesday (Sept. 14).

She was born June 13, 1948, the daughter of Marion and Julius Agrast of Cleveland.

She married her beloved husband, Clifford Rice on March 4, 1978. Together, they had one son, Daniel Rice.

She retired from Crestwood schools where she worked in the kitchen and as a custodian. Though her job was physically very demanding, she declared that she was “small but mighty” and could do anything! She made that her motto.'

Shirley loved spending time with her family and her favorite times were spent outdoors. She enjoyed camping, cookouts and gardening.

She loved animals.

Each spring, Shirley looked forward to choosing her flowers and hanging baskets for the season. She was especially partial to mums and begonias.

Her love of coffee was legendary and she nearly always had a cup in hand.

Most of all, though, Shirley loved to laugh! She will be remembered for her huge smile and her infectious laugh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford H. Rice; her parents, Marion Stoddard Agrast and Julius Agrast; and her brother, Sanford Agrast.

She is survived by her son, Daniel (Monica) Rice of Shalersville; and her sister, Debra Mays of Illinois.

Shirley will be interred at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery alongside her husband.
