YOUNGSTOWN — The Autism Society of Mahoning Valley is seeking applications for its Autism Teacher Mini Grant Program.
Awards of $500, $250 and $100 will be awarded to applicants from public and private schools in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties.
Online applications are being accepted here through July 31.
The ASMV board, a group consisting of community members and parents, will review the applications and select the winners in early August.
Last year’s ASMV awardees used the funds to help expand the student accommodations in their classrooms in the following ways:
- First-place $500 grant: Holly Fay, Austintown Local Schools, Lighthouse Unit Teacher K-2. Her grant provided a laminator for the classroom for communication needs, as well as laminating supplies and other communication supplies.
- Second-place $250 grant: Kimberly MacDonald, Fairhaven School. Her project was Travel Buddies — communication books, boards and pouches to travel with her students outside school.
- Third-place $100 grant: Kayla Dickason-Welsh, Hubbard Exempted Village School District/ Hubbard High School. Welsh has a high school class that is focused on life skills. She has many needs, including flexible seating and items for her cooking lab to teach cooking skills to her students.
