CANFIELD — A regional VEX Robotics competition hosting more than 50 teams from schools as far as the Cleveland area will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 1) at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road.
Teams will randomly be paired and compete two-on-two to stack cones and move mobile goals into one of several scoring zones. At the end of the qualification matches, the top eight teams will each choose two partners to go into the elimination round to compete, round robin style, in a best-out-of-three competition. The teams will then advance to the semifinals and eventually into the final round.
The top two alliances, as well as the excellence, design and skills winners, will advance to the state competition in March.
Robots are designed, built, programmed and operated solely by the students.
The local schools competing are Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Valley STEM + ME2 Academy, Austintown, Lowellville, Struthers, Trumbull County Career and Technical Center, Leetonia, Liberty, Windam and South Range.
