Youngstown State baseball to open series against Baylor

The Youngstown State baseball team (1-7) will open a four-game series at Baylor (2-6) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Baylor Ballpark in Waco, Texas.

The Penguins and Bears will proceed to play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. before finishing the series with a single game on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Live audio for all four games this weekend will be available at YSNLive.com while Friday’s series opener will also be broadcast live on ESPN+. Live stats will be available through links on YSUsports.com. Fans can also follow @YSUBaseball on Twitter for live updates.

Fifth-year senior right-hander Travis Perry will take the mound for the Penguins in the series opener on Friday while junior right-hander Nick Perez is scheduled to start game one of Saturday’s doubleheader. Sophomore right-hander Brandon Mikos is slated to start game two on Saturday while the starter for Sunday’s series finale is to be announced.

Youngstown State baseball promotional schedule

The Youngstown State baseball team will have a full slate of promotions for fans for its home schedule at Eastwood Field that begins on March 17.

Each of the Penguins’ 20 home games in 2023 will have a promotional element or giveaway item.

The home and Horizon League opener will be Friday, March 17, against Oakland and will feature a schedule magnet giveaway.

There will be $2 Hot Dog Wally’s hot dogs and $1 pop at the concession stands for Friday games on March 17, March 31, April 7 and April 28. There will be $4 16 oz. beer at the concession stands for Saturday games on March 18, April 1, April 8, April 29 and May 20.

Sunday games on March 19, April 2, and April 30 will be “Rise Pies Sundays” with fans receiving a free cheese pizza coupon from Rise Pies if YSU scores five runs or more. Tuesday games on April 4, April 11, April 25 and May 9 will be “Trading Card Tuesdays” with fans receiving an exclusive YSU baseball trading card set. All four Tuesday games will also feature $2 game tickets.

There will be a number of giveaway days as well at Eastwood Field. There will be a schedule magnet giveaway for the home opener on March 17, a team poster giveaway on March 18 and a lunch bag giveaway on April 1. The game on April 6 will feature a t-shirt giveaway for YSU students. There will be a stadium cup giveaway courtesy of Mr. Rooter Plumbing on April 29, and a YSU tumbler giveaway for YSU students on May 18.

YSU’s home game against Northern Kentucky on April 8, will feature a “Foul Ball Trade-In” promotion where fans can trade in a foul ball at the press box for a YSU beanie hat. The game against Kent State on April 19, will be “80’s Night” where fans can hear the best songs from the 1980’s. Fans can also receive free admission if they show they were born in the 1980’s. The game against Milwaukee on April 30, will be “Bark in the Park” day where fans can bring their dog friends out to Eastwood Field.

The game on May 19, against Wright State will be the Akron Children’s Hospital of Mahoning Valley School Day Game with hundreds of local students in attendance. The regular season finale against Wright State on May 20 will mark Senior Day as YSU’s senior class will be honored.
