Youngstown State women’s lacrosse team to host Gardner-Webb on Tuesday

The Youngstown State women’s lacrosse team will return home to face Gardner-Webb on March 14 in the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS).

The matchup, previously scheduled to take place on Farmers National Bank Field, will now take place inside the WATTS. First draw against the Runnin’ Bulldogs is set for 1 p.m. The contest will be streamed on the YSUsports YouTube Channel.

Scouting Gardner-Webb

The Runnin’ Bulldogs are currently 1-6 overall, earning their first win of the season against Mid-American Conference member Akron on Sunday, 18-10. They have lost to Cincinnati, No. 11 Duke, Clemson, Queens of Charlotte, Davidson, and Robert Morris. MAC member Robert Morris defeated Gardner-Webb 14-8 on Wednesday.

The Penguins and Runnin’ Bulldogs both faced off against Cincinnati this season. Gardner-Webb was dealt a 20-9 defeat while YSU lost 14-11.

Brittany Sherrod has led Gardner-Webb’s scoring efforts so far this season, scoring 12 goals. Sherrod also leads the team in draw controls with 21. Bria Foley has also reached double-digit goals with 10 this season.

Gardner-Webb is under the direction of interim head coach Maddie Martin. Martin is in her first season with the Runnin’ Bulldogs after being named an assistant in July 2022 before being promoted to interim head coach in October 2022. Martin was a member of the Gardner-Webb women’s lacrosse team from 2018-22.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs finished the 2022 season with a 10-9 overall record and competed in the Big South semifinals.
