They have a great softball program and now a new field to play on.

Poland, which is perennially one of the top Division II softball programs in Ohio, dedicated its new softball field in impressive fashion recently, rolling to an 8-2 triumph over the Hubbard Eagles.

Katie McDonald starred for Poland

Poland standout Katie McDonald, one of the top pitchers in the area and who led the Bulldogs to the Division II district title game against Canfield last season, was the winning pitcher against Hubbard.

McDonald also blasted the first home run on the Bulldogs’ new softball field.

Poland has a rich history in softball, qualifying for the state tournament on five different occasions. The Bulldogs won the state championship in 2011 and earned state runner-up finishes in 2001 and 2010.

The Bulldogs have dropped from Division II to Division III this spring and should be a strong state tournament challenger in their new division, along with fellow perennial state power Warren Champion.
