College basketball insider thinks Youngstown State head coach Jerrod Calhoun could end up in West Virginia
West Virginia basketball head coach Bob Huggins was arrested Friday night on a DUI charge in Pittsburgh and resigned and announced his retirement on Saturday.
And former ESPN college basketball Jeff Goodman, who now works with Stadium, suggested in a tweet Saturday that Youngstown State head basketball coach Jerrod Calhoun, who was West Virginia’s staff from 2007-2012, could be a head coach option for the team.
On Huggins’ arrest, ESPN cited a police report which reportedly stated that “a breath test determined that Huggins’ blood alcohol content was 0.21%, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08% in Pennsylvania. A blood sample also was taken from Huggins at a hospital prior to his release.”
Huggins’ arrest is his second major controversy in the past six months after he was given a three-game suspension and a $1 million reduction in salary after he used an anti-gay slur during an interview on a Cincinnati radio station.
Last year, Calhoun led Youngstown State to a 24-10 record, which tied a team record for most wins in a season. The team won the Horizon League regular season title before falling to Oklahoma State in the first round of the NIT.
He signed a contract extension with the Penguins following the season.
