There’s no shakeup at the top of this week’s mahoningmatters.com Super 7 football poll.

Ursuline

No. 1: The Youngstown Ursuline Irish have been No. 1 in the poll all season and remain there following another impressive win last week when the Irish rolled to a 56-20 win over Warren Harding.

The remaining teams on Ursuline’s demanding schedule have a combined record of 17-7, starting Friday night when the Irish travel to Austintown Fitch (4-1) for a showdown with the Falcons.

Austintown Fitch

No. 2: Like Ursuline at No. 1, the Austintown Fitch Falcons remain entrenched at No. 2 again this week, following their 41-0 romp over winless Stow last week.

The Falcons have only surrendered 66 points in their first five games, or 13.2 points per game.

Poland

No. 3: Poland, which has easily been the most improved team in the Mahoning Valley this season, remains at No. 3.

The Bulldogs, who were 5-5 last season, have already reached that win total at the halfway point of this season with their perfect 5-0 record after a 53-0 shutout of Hubbard.

Poland now enters a very challenging stretch of its schedule starting this week when it entertains Northeast 8 foe and defending state Division V champ South Range (4-1) Friday night.

South Range

No. 4: South Range skyrockets to No. 4 in this week’s Super 7 poll and with good reason.

The Raiders (4-1) are coming off an impressive 37-33 Northeast 8 win over a talented Struthers team last weekend in Struthers.

The Raiders face back-to-back big games as they travel to Poland Friday night to play the unbeaten Bulldogs (5-0).

West Branch

No. 5: West Branch is the No. 5-rated team in this week’s poll.

The Warriors (4-1) defeated winless Howland 49-0 last Friday in Beloit, scoring 42 points in the first half and starting a running clock in the second half with many of its reserves playing in the final quarter.

The Warriors travel to winless Minerva (0-5) Friday night in what has the potential to be another running clock game.

United Local

No. 6: United Local has been the picture of consistency all season and is coming off a big Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference win last Friday when it rolled to a 35-14 win over the Southern Local Indians.

The Golden Eagles are 5-0 on the year and travel to Lisbon (3-2) Friday in another Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference contest.

Jackson-Milton

No. 7: Jackson-Milton remains the No. 7 team in this week’s Super 7.

The Bluejays (5-0) remained unbeaten with a 28-21 win over a talented McDonald team last Friday in a key Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference game.

Jackson-Milton will play another key MVAC game Friday night when it travels to Springfield to face a Tiger team, which is 3-2, but its two losses have been to a pair of teams with a combined 8-2 record in South Range and Geneva.
