South Range uses quick start in first half to roll past Niles, 48-14
Supremacy in the Northeast 8 conference was claimed as the 6-1 South Range Raiders defeated Niles 48-14 Friday night at Bo Rein Memorial -Stadium.
The Raiders played their best overall game of the season.
Several players scored for South Range
South Range moved the ball on offense on the ground and through the air. Four Raiders players scored touchdowns in the first half.
“We played a really clean game, the kids had a great week of preparation and we started fast,” South Range head coach David Rach said. “It was probably the cleanest game we’ve played all year.”
The first touchdown of the evening went to running back Blake Ewert on an eleven-yard run to start the scoring for South Range.
Fellow running back Michael Chadbourne scored on a 19-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
Not to be outdone, backfield mate Aidan Dominguez scored three touchdowns in the game, including one in the first-half barrage.
Quarterback Tristan Toy scored both touchdowns in the first half, the first on an eleven-yard scamper.
The second came six seconds before the half on a 2-yard carry to give South Range a 34-0 halftime lead.
Both teams would score two touchdowns each in the second half. Dominguez with two for South Range, including an explosive 69-yard dash to finish the scoring.
Antuan Gardner scored both touchdowns for Niles
Niles running back Antuan Gardner would score both touchdowns for the Red Dragons in the game, a 69-yarder of his own and a 14-yard run in garbage time.
“You have to regroup or let it define you,” Niles head coach Jim Parry said, “and I think we will regroup coming out of this.”
Niles will play at Struthers next week as they try to bounce back from back-to-back losses.
South Range will bring a six-game winning streak home to host Louisville in a non-conference matchup.
