30 Mahoning Valley high school football teams currently hold state playoff positions

If the OHSAA’s high school football playoffs began this week, 30 Mahoning Valley-area teams would be in the postseason dance.

In D2, Warren Harding (4-4) and Austintown Fitch (4-3) currently hold playoff positions, while in D3, the unbeaten Ursuline Fighting Irish (8-0) would be in, as well as Canfield (4-3) and Youngstown Chaney (4-3).

In Division IV, nine area teams currently retain playoff spots, including West Branch (7-1), Poland (7-1), Struthers (6-2), Niles (5-3), Cardinal Mooney (4-4), Beaver Local (5-3), Girard (4-4), East Liverpool (5-3) and Hubbard (4-4).

In D5, South Range (7-1), Lakeview (4-4) and Liberty (3-5) would all be in, while in D6, seven area teams hold playoff positions, including United (7-1), Jackson-Milton (6-2), LaBrae (4-4), Mineral Ridge (5-3), Crestview (4-4), Brookfield (4-4) and Valley Christian (4-4).

In the small-school D7 ranks, six teams would be in the postseason right now, including Springfield (6-2), Western Reserve (6-2), Lowellville (7-1), Lisbon (6-2), Southern (6-3) and McDonald (5-3).
