Beaver Local’s season ends at Streetsboro, 41-20

STREETSBORO — Beaver Local, which qualified for the OHSAA postseason football playoffs for a fourth consecutive year, saw its season end in a 41-20 Division IV playoff loss to the Streetsboro Rockets here Friday night in rainy conditions.

Fifth-seeded Streetsboro (10-1) moves on in postseason action and will play at fourth-seeded West Branch (10-1) next Friday night at 7 p.m.

Beaver Local concludes its season with a 6-5 record.

Big night for Preston Hopperton

Streetsboro senior running back Preston Hopperton rushed for 230 yards and four touchdowns in the game to lead the Rockets who held quarter-stop leads of 13-6, 25-13 and 34-20.

“We had a few opportunities we didn’t capitalize on,” said Beaver Local head coach Mike McKenzie as the Beavers had two scoring drives deep into Streetsboro territory stopped on downs.

Beaver Local led by Austin Cline

Beaver Local scored its touchdowns on a 10-yard pass from quarterback Austin Cline to Brock Severs, as well as 30 and 12-yard runs by Cline. Cline, a senior, finished with 130 yards passing and 129 yards rushing in the game.

“We saw the kid at Alliance, Brendan Zurbrugg, the Oklahoma recruit, and he (Cline) may have been the second-best quarterback we’ve faced other than him,” said Streetsboro’s Thompson.

The 20 points Beaver Local scored in the game was the most points the Rockets have given up in the past seven games they’ve played.
