Three great regional final games slated Friday for Mahoning Valley-area football teams
The Mahoning Valley will have three teams eyeing respective regional football playoff championships Friday night in Youngstown Ursuline (13-0) in Division III, Struthers (10-3) in Division IV and South Range (12-1) in Division V.
Ursuline
Ursuline and Chardon, two teams with multiple state football championship trophies in their school showcases, will meet Friday night in what should be a tremendous D3 Region 9 regional championship battle at Ravenna’s Community Bank Stadium at 7 p.m.
Ursuline, which is 13-0 on the season, is averaging 37 points-per-game and giving up just 13.6 points per game.
Chardon (10-3) is averaging 35.1 points-per-outing and surrendering 13 points per game.
Struthers
Struthers (10-3), which is playing its best football of the season, is coming off a last-second 28-25 playoff win over Mentor Lake Catholic, will play the unbeaten Canton South Wildcats (13-0) in a D4 Region 13 regional championship game Friday night at 7 p.m. at Tallmadge’s Larry Bagnoli Field.
The Wildcats, who have won two games in the final seconds this season, are averaging 30.8 points-per-game with its great running attack, while giving up 17.6 points per game.
Canton South, led by its All-Ohio quarterback Poochie Snyder, is 13-0 on the season and is averaging 42.8 points-per-game while giving up 24.1 points per game
South Range
South Range, the defending D5 state champion will play the Perry Pirates in a much-anticipated Division V Region 17 regional championship battle Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Twinsburg Tiger Stadium.
South Range checks into the showdown with a 12-1 record while Perry is 13-0 on the season. These are two of the top teams in all of Ohio Division V football.
South Range is averaging 36.2 points-per-game and giving up 14 points per game.
The Perry Pirates are averaging 38.7 points-per-outing and giving up just 6.5 points per game.
