4 Mahoning Valley softball teams qualify for this weekend’s state tournament

Austintown Fitch, Canfield, South Range and Mathews are headed to the Ohio high school softball state tournament.

Austintown Fitch 8, Walsh Jesuit 2

Sydnie Watts struck out 12 batters to lead Austintown Fitch past previously undefeated Walsh Jesuit, 8-2.

South Range 1, Champion 0 (8 innings)

Giada Pauline hit a walk-off inside the park home run in the eighth inning to lead South Range past Champion 1-0.

Canfield 3, Medina Buckeye 0

Malena Toth threw a one-hit shutout and struck out 17 batters to lead Canfield past Medina Buckeye 3-0.

Mathews 4 Canton Central Catholic 1

The Mustangs qualified for the team’s first state tournament since 2012 with a 4-1 win over Canton Central Catholic.
