Warren’s Paul Warfield to be inducted into National High School Football Hall of Fame
Football greatness and Canton, Ohio. The words go hand in hand.
The second class of the new National High School Football Hall of Fame will be inducted in a weekend event in Canton on June 7-8.
Of course, among the inaugural 2023 class that was enshrined last season was standout quarterback Bernie Kosar from Boardman High School, who went on to greatness as quarterback in college for the Miami Hurricanes and led them to a national championship. Later, Kosar quarterbacked the Cleveland Browns to many playoff appearances and wins.
This year’s 2024 class, the second to be inducted, also has a Mahoning Valley connection as Warren Harding great Paul Warfield is among those to be enshrined. Warfield went on to star at Ohio State and with the NFL’s Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins.
Other inductees in the 2024 class include Ted Ginn Jr., Bob Golic, Dick Butkus, Billy Sims, Eric Dickerson, Orlando Pace, Doug Williams, Josh Cribbs, Charles Woodson, Nate Burleson, Terrelle Pryor, Dexter Manley, Dick Hoak, Chuck Ealey, Jack Trice, Robert Smith, Harvey Armstrong, Mike Young, Stump Mitchell, Kurt Kampe, Erine Davis, Calvin “Jack” Jones, Geoff Mitchell, contributor Bobby DiGeronimo, coach Chuck Kyle, coach Reno Saccocia, coach Gerry Faust and coach Joe Mucci.
The special weekend opens Friday, June 7 at 3 p.m. at Canton McKinley High School as fans will be able to see bronze plaques of those from last year’s inaugural class.
Later on Friday from 6-9 p.m., at Canton’s DoubleTree Hotel, there is a social that is planned for fans, coaches and the inductees.
On enshrinement Saturday, June 8, those in attendance will see the arrival of the 2024 inductees beginning at 3 p.m. at Canton’s Umstattd Performing Arts Hall. Then at 4 p.m., the actual induction of this year’s class will take place.
Topping off the special day will be an After Party event slated later that evening at 7 p.m. at Don Shula’s American Kitchen in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s beautiful new Hall of Fame Village.
