Youngstown State football team announces five captains for 2024 season

The Youngstown State football team has named five OL Jaison Williams, TB Tyshon King, LB Devin Johnson, DE Michael Voitus and LB Logan Pasco as team captains for the upcoming football season.

The vote was carried out by the Penguins football team and announced to the team by Head Coach Doug Phillips at a team meeting on Tuesday evening.

Williams and King are the offensive captains, Voitus and Johnson are the defensive captains and Pasco is the special teams captain.

All five are veterans of the YSU program. Williams has been with the program since the fall of 2019. Johnson, Voitus and Pasco came during the COVID summer of 2020 while King transferred in from Northern Michigan in the summer of 2023.

Williams has been recognized as a preseason FCS All-American by many services. Both he and King were named preseason All-Missouri Valley Football Conference picks recently.The Penguins open the season on Thursday, August 29 when they visit Villanova. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
