There’s a new No. 1 in this week’s mahoningmatters.com Super 7 high school baseball poll. Here’s a look at this week’s rankings:

Canfield

Canfield has climbed from No. 2 to No. 1 in the ratings.

The Cardinals were perfect last week, defeating Marlington and Youngstown Cardinal Mooney while outscoring those two teams, 9-2.

The Division IV Cardinals are 3-1 on the season and have only surrendered seven total runs in four games played.

Poland

Poland, which is 2-0 on the season, checks in at No. 2 in the ratings.

The Bulldogs have posted a pair of shutouts in wins over Hubbard (2-0) and Columbiana (14-0),

Poland has a rich tradition in baseball while qualifying for the state tournament on three occasions in school history.

Boardman

The Boardman Spartans are No. 3 in the poll.

The Spartans are 2-1 on the season and have shutout both the Warren Harding Raiders (2-0) and Massillon Tigers (4-0) last week.

Warren JFK

Warren JFK is No. 4 in the rankings.

The D7 Eagles, who play up in their schedule to prepare for a strong postseason run, are 2-1 on the season.

Warren Kennedy’s wins have come in a pair of shutouts over Salem (3-0) and the Geneva Eagles (10-0).

Warren Harding

Warren Harding checks in at No. 5 in the rankings.

The Raiders own a 3-1 record with wins over Bristol, Youngstown East and Niles. They outscored those three teams, 38-7.

Their lone loss came in a 2-0 setback to No. 3-ranked Boardman.

LaBrae

LaBrae jumps into the rankings at No. 6.

The Vikings are 2-0 on the season and have defeated Warren Champion (10-3) and Middlefield Cardinal (3-0).

South Range

Perennial power South Range rounds out the poll at No. 7.

The Raiders are expected to be a strong challenger in the new Division V postseason classification this season as the OHSAA has gone to seven divisions. The Raiders were Division III in the former four-division setup.

The Raiders defeated Austintown Fitch 17-5 in the first week of the season on the Falcons’ home turf.
