Six Mahoning Valley-area teams that advanced to the regional last season headline the mahoningmatters.com Super 7 preseason baseball poll.

Here’s a look at the rankings:

No. 1 CANFIELD

Canfield, which is perennially a state power in the Division IV ranks, is No. 1 in the preseason rankings.

The Cardinals were 21-11 last season and advanced all the way to the Division IV regional semifinals before being ousted by Mentor Lake Catholic which went on to claim the Division IV state championship with a 3-2 win over Sandusky Perkins.

The Cards will open the season this week against Cardinal Mooney.

No. 2 CARDINAL MOONEY

Cardinal Mooney, which was playing outstanding baseball toward the end of last season and reached the Division V regional semifinals, is No. 2 in the ratings.

The Cardinals, who were 19-7 a year ago, advanced to the Division V regional semifinals last spring before falling to the Waynedale Golden Bears.

Mooney will open the season against the Springfield Tigers and will also play the Canfield Cardinals and Norwayne Bobcats before the week is out.

No. 3 GIRARD

The Girard Indians hold down the No. 3 spot in the poll.

Girard made it all the way to the Division IV regional semifinals before dropping a close 1-0 decision to eventual state champion Mentor Lake Catholic last year.

The Indians, who were 16-3 a season ago, are scheduled to play the West Branch Warriors in their season opener Saturday in Beloit.

No. 4 HUBBARD

The Hubbard Eagles are No. 4 in the preseason rankings.

The Eagles advanced to the Division IV regional semifinals last year before falling to the Canfield Cardinals.

Hubbard, which compiled a 23-7 record last season, will play the Boardman Spartans and Springfield Tigers to open its campaign this week.

No. 5 WARREN JFK

Perennial Division VII power Warren JFK checks in at No. 5 in the rankings.

The Eagles came ever so close to qualifying for the state tournament last season before being nipped 4-3 by Tiffin Calvert in the regional championship contest.

Warren JFK, which was 18-9 in 2025, will initiate the 2026 season this week playing the Alliance Aviators on Friday in Alliance.

No. 6 POLAND

Perennial Division V power Poland is No. 6 in the ratings.

The Bulldogs were 18-5 a season ago and made it to the district tournament where it lost to the Norwayne Bobcats.

Poland will open the season this week when it hosts Eastern Buckeye Conference member Carrollton on Saturday.

No. 7 McDONALD

McDonald rounds out the Super 7 preseason baseball poll at No. 7

The Blue Devils won a Division VII district championship last spring and advanced to the regional where it was ousted by Tiffin Calvert.

McDonald compiled a 16-9 record last season and will open the 2026 campaign playing the Boardman Spartans and Youngstown East Golden Bears this week.
