DLN Roundup: Conestoga clinches regular season girls lacrosse crown
Tori Hewitt had four goals as Conestoga pulled away in the fourth period for an 11-6 girls lacrosse victory over Marple Newtown on Tuesday to clinch the Central League regular season title.
The Pioneers swept the league slate as they finished at 11-0 and 17-1 overall. They are the top-ranked team in the District 1 3A rankings. Lu Misener, Brooke Bickel and Julia Cowgill had two goals each for the Pioneers, while Carolyn Jones had three assists. Courtney Smock made four saves in goal.
Downingtown East 18, Oxford 7 – The Cougars jumped out to a big lead after the first period en route to the Ches-Mont victory. Ella Benner, Stella Phillips and Ashley Januszko led the way with three goals each. Ella Conte, Nat Kibalo, Lola Trullinger and Collyn Kropp collected two goals each. Januszko and Kropp had three assists apiece.
Great Valley 13, WC Rustin 9 – The Patriots recorded the Ches-Mont victory. Ava Capelli had three goals and an assist. Bella Capelli and Tessa Morrison scored twice each for the Golden Knights. Viv Ardell notched five saves.
Bishop Shanahan 13, Kennett 4 – Callie Murray had four goals and Marley Nicholas scored three times to guide the Eagles to the Ches-Mont win. Fiona Duncheskie had a pair of goals, while Emma McGlothlin, Cece Treacy, Chloe Ragazo and Lila Behnam notched single tallies. Julianna O'Brien made 12 saves.
Downingtown West 20, Sun Valley 4 – Ava Findora and Brinn Findora had four goals each as the Whippets cruised to the Ches-Mont victory. Stella Fitch added three goals, while Sydney Fitch, Eme McComsey and Andi Lymberis notched two goals apiece.
Boys Lacrosse
BIshop Shanahan 15, Kennett 5 – Nate Kennedy's five goals helped power the Eagles past the Demons. Rory Miller added four goals, Nick Snyder chipped in five assists and Brendan Heinerichs won all 23 faceoffs for Shanahan.
Avon Grove 10, West Chester Henderson 6 – Tied at halftime, the Red Devils outscored the Warriors 7-3 the rest of the way to grab the Ches-Mont win. Tyler Stukis paced Henderson with four goals, Zach Abrahams added a goal and two assists, and goalkeeper Blake Beale registered 12 saves to lead the Warriors.
Downingtown West 18, Sun Valley 7 – The Whippets remained unbeaten after cruising past the Vanguards in a Ches-Mont contest. Five different West players had multiple goals, including Luke Kell (four goals, five assists), Aiden Benner (three goals, four assists), Ryan O'Donnell (three goals, three assists), Brady Cetera (three goals, two assists) and Cole Epps (three goals, two assists).
Baseball
Great Valley 10, Oxford 5 – The Patriots led 7-2 after two innings and went on to defeat the Hornets in a Ches-Mont battle. Colton Manning led Great Valley with two hits and four RBIs. Josh Kilroy had two hits and drove in a run for Oxford.
Softball
Coatesville 8, Downingtown West 3 – The Raiders raced out to a 6-0 early lead and went on to top the Whippets in Ches-Mont action. Coatesville got two-run homers from Hailey Persch, Sam Fegley, Grace Folk, and Jill Wimmer to score all of its runs. Grace Landis earned the win by allowing zero earned runs and striking out six. Addy Blower had two hits and Lillian O'Laughlin drove in two for West.
