Thunder Fans Want Victor Wembanyama Disciplined For 'Dirty' Antics
San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has officially become public enemy No. 1 for Oklahoma City Thunder fans.
Wembanyama was excellent in Game 6 to keep San Antonio's season alive. The 22-year-old All-Star had 28 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two assists to force a Game 7 in Oklahoma City.
While there's no question Wembanyama's performance was great, Oklahoma City fans are convinced he pulled Lu Dort's hair in the first quarter. At the very least, the French phenom got away with a flagrant foul.
With Game 7 on the horizon, Thunder fans want the league to discipline Wembanyama for his actions. Of course, we doubt that happens.
"All with no additional punishment from the NBA, Wemby being donned as the face of 'ethical basketball,' and the narrative from the series being the Thunder whistle and Shai falling in a series they're shooting less FT with both sides playing physically," a Thunder fan said. "We're witnessing the biggest mass gaslighting event the sport has ever seen."
"At what point will Wemby suffer even the slightest whiff of a consequence for any of this stuff? No suspension or even a nominal fine for ***any***of it is crazy," a second fan wrote.
"I am for physical basketball and can certainly make the game interesting but deliberately trying to hurt other players by targeting is beyond what basketball is about and there should be consequences for it," another fan declared.
"Victor Wembanyama is such a dirty player and I hope people start to realize that one day," a social media user wrote.
Spurs aren't lacking confidence.
After keeping the series alive Thursday night, Spurs guard Stephon Castle made it clear that he's entering Saturday's do-or-die game with a positive mindset.
"We all want this. It's right there in front of us," Castle said. "We feel like collectively that we're better than this team."
Tipoff for Game 7 between the Spurs and Thunder is set for 8 p.m. ET.
