Dallas Goedert Explains Eagles Return Despite Other ‘Opportunities'
Veteran tight end Dallas Goedert re-signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on a one-year deal worth up to $7 million in March, choosing to return to Philly despite exploring other free-agent options after his 8th NFL season.
While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Goedert explained his decision to re-join the franchise that selected him with their No. 49 overall draft pick in 2018.
“I was able to test free agency a little bit. I had opportunities to go elsewhere,” Goedert said. “Nothing was a better opportunity than I though I could have here. Being able to play in the same place for nine years is special. It would’ve had to be something drastic to have me try to sign somewhere else.”

Goedert recorded career highs in both receptions and touchdowns in his eighth NFL season with the Eagles, reeling in 60 catches for 591 yards and 11 scores. His 11 touchdown grabs more than doubled his previous career high of five, which he recorded through his second professional season in 2019.

Goedert was the Eagles’ third leading receiver in 2025, trailing only DeVonta Smith (1,008 yards) and A.J. Brown (1,005 yards). The Eagles traded Brown to the New England Patriots earlier this offseason, but picked up rookie Makai Lemon, former Green Bay Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks and veteran wideout Hollywood Brown before the 2026 season.
The Eagles will kickoff their 2026 regular-season schedule with a Week 1 matchup against the Washington Commanders on Sep. 13.
