Free Community Garage Sale: Saturday, May 22, 2021

How you can give back by donating gently used items.

Spring cleaning is popular among homeowners this time of year.

Many find that clearing out items that are no longer being used can be therapeutic, but it can also create an opportunity to help out someone who is in need.

That’s why Sam Boak, president and founder of Boak & Sons, Inc., reached out to the Canfield Rotary Club. They are partnering to hold the upcoming Free Community Garage Sale Giveaway.

On Saturday, May 22, from 9 am to 4 pm, the Boak & Sons warehouse will be full of gently used items, including household appliances, clothing, tools and furniture.

While the initial idea was to hold a large garage sale in the warehouse, Boak decided that every single item at the event will be completely free of charge. The only money spent will be optional, voluntary donations that can be made to the Youngstown Salvation Army, Red Kettle or Beatitude House.

“We all have things we don’t use in our homes that others could benefit from,” says Boak.

The employees at Boak & Sons have been busy rounding up as many items as they can from their homes, in preparation for the event. “I pride myself in knowing how passionate the employees here are about helping the community and giving back, and this gives us an opportunity to do so.”

Each person who attends will be allowed to bring one box and will have 30 minutes to fill it with items of their choosing. Whether you have one person in your party or ten, every individual receives one box. Attendees are welcome to bring their own with them, but boxes will also be available on site.

To prevent over-crowding, not all items will be displayed at once, but they will be restocked regularly throughout the day. This approach gives everyone the chance to discover great treasures.

To ensure the safety of all attendees, masks and social distancing will be enforced throughout the entire event. The company’s large warehouse provides more than enough room for social distancing and comfort. As an additional precaution, attendees will be allowed to enter in small groups only and will be given 30 minutes to shop.

Please drop off any items you’d like to donate to the Boak & Sons warehouse at 75 Victoria Road in Youngstown, Ohio, any weekday between 9 am and 4 pm. Please note that donated items must be clean and in good working condition. Many have been greatly impacted by the pandemic; the more items collected, the more people can be helped.

“We are thrilled to safely welcome everyone to our warehouse for this event and we hope everyone will consider donating to the Salvation Army,” says Boak. “This will be a fantastic time and a great way for all of us to help someone in need.”
